National Bike Month is Here!

It has been an amazing start to National Bike Month here in the Northwest with warm weather and sunny skies.  Being the official start of spring the month of May can be hit and miss, but it nevertheless is a great opportunity to dust off the bike shoes, pull out the panniers and get riding!

We are lucky to live in a city that hosts a number of programs and events throughout the month to encourage first time and long time commuters to ride.  Kudos to Cascade Bicycle Club, Commute Seattle, and all of the sponsors for their efforts in making May an awesome month to be a bike commuter in Seattle!

Check out a few of the highlights in Seattle:

All Month - Commute Challenge presented by Adobe:
Start a team at work, or sign up as an individual rider, either way participate!  Its a fun and easy event to motivate you to ride by tracking your mileage and staying current on bike happenings  around town.

May 2 - Cascade Bicycle Club Bike to Work Breakfast:
Support bicycle advocacy and education at this donation supported breakfast event at the Sheraton Hotel.  Suggestion: Try to get your office or business to sponsor your ticket, or better yet become a sponsor!

May 9 - Cascade Bicycle Club Commute Challenge Captains Bash
One major perk of being a Team Captain in the Commute Challenge is the Captains Bash at Pike Place Brewery.  Raffle drawings usually have great prizes, and you get two free beers and snacks.  Plus its a great opportunity to go hang out in a room packed full of spandex clad bike geeks!

May 10 - Commute Seattle Bikes and Bagels:
Free bagels and coffee for riding your bike to work.  Stop by McGraw Plaza for a rally with the Mayor, council members and local business leaders.

May 17 - National Bike to Work Day:
Pick up free stuff at one of the numerous commute stations (click here for a map to find free stuff).  Ride with the Mayor from Fremont to City Hall and stop by the KEXP rally for Jamba Juice and a big party!  Check out all the local events at the Cascade Bike Club website.

May 31 - Ballard Street Party
Celebrate the end of Bike Month on Ballard Ave from 4-7pm.  Lots of local and industry vendors will be there displaying the latest wares in bike commuting.  There is a fashion show and lots of other events.

All Month - Tacoma Bike Month:

Those are the highlights for the month.  Check back in as we here at Bike Cascadia will be keeping you up to date throughout the month.
